Andrew Davison September

September: your retirement fund: know your rights & obligations as a member
This presentation will cover the broad-based principles of retirement planning as well as the role and responsibility of retirement fund members.  This will include member activism, the role of the trustee and other key parties, what members should know about capital preservation, member investment choice, age banding and defaulting the associated problems, fund governance, etc.

Your pension or provident fund is a major component of your retirement savings. Yet sadly, many people don't know enough about their funds. Who are your trustees and where and how are they investing your money? Do your trustees understand investments, retirement fund governance and are their investment decisions compliant with the laws and regulations?

Whether you are a pensioner or a contributing member of a retirement fund, it is essential that you understand and become more proactive about how your savings are being managed. At the next financial planning club presentation, Andrew Davison, Head of Institutional Asset Consulting at acsis, will discuss retirement fund investments and provide you with tips on how to ensure that sound investment governance is being applied to your fund.

The presentation will cover:

  • challenges of retirement planning
  • understanding your fund
  • various stakeholders and their roles
  • the need for members to take ownership
  • understanding investment strategies
  • making wise choices
  • exiting the fund
