This presentation, which will take place during national savings month, will look at the vital role of savings within an economy and will review SA’s savings statistics. It will also highlight the detrimental affect of longer life expectancies on those who are chronically under-saved and under-insured.
Poor financial decisions coupled with longer life expectancies have placed many South Africans in the midst of a savings crisis. Household debt levels continue to soar while saving and investment rates remain at dangerous lows. Despite high levels of affluence, education and a multitude of financial products, the sad reality is that as a nation, we are grossly under-saved, under-insured and over-indebted.
In light of the fact that July is national savings, Andrew Bradley, CEO of acsis, will explore South Africa’s savings crisis in more detail at the July financial planning club presentations.
He will also cover:
- why South Africans find it hard to save – our behavioural biases
- how saving benefits the economy
- what needs to be done to address the problem
- a closer look at savings and investment statistics and what that means for you
Andrew has been at the forefront of a number of significant developments in the financial planning and investment arena over the past 20 years. During this period he also served in various leadership capacities on the boards of the Association of Collective Investments (ACI), the South African Savings Institute (SASI), the Financial Planning Institute (FPI), the international Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB) Council, the Young Presidents Organisation (YPO) and the South African Rugby Players Association (SARPA). Andrew has co-authored three books, writes a number of columns for various publications, hosted a weekly radio show for eight years and regularly is interviewed on radio and television in the fields of financial planning and investments. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, a Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of Natal and is a Certified Financial Planner.
